Five Impressive Buildings in Bristol

At Belowground Ltd, we’re proud to be based in the vibrant and exciting city of Bristol. With a rich history and culture, there are many impressive buildings to spot in the city. Here are five of the most impressive feats of architecture to look out for on your next visit:

Cabot Tower

Peering high above Bristol’s skyline, Cabot Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. At 105ft tall, Cabot Tower is certainly one of the most impressive structures and can be spotted for miles around. It also offers one of the best views across the city’s skyline; stairs winding through the tower are open to the public and are incredibly popular on a sunny day.

Ashton Court Mansion

Tucked away in the vast expanse of Ashton Court estate, this charming yellow mansion stands out amongst the verdant greenery and thick woodland. During the First World War, Ashton Court mansion was used as a military hospital; today, this picturesque mansion is an icon of Ashton Court and has now become a popular venue for parties, weddings and more.

Arnos Vale Cemetry

Arnos Vale Cemetry, which opened for the first time in 1839, has a truly unique design based on a Greek Necropolis, making it stand out amongst the rest of Bristol’s Byzantine architecture. Surrounded by 45 acres of greenery, Arnos Vale Cemetry has since become a popular place to enjoy a walk in the heart of Bristol.

St Mary Redcliffe Church

St Mary Redcliffe Church is an excellent example of Bristol’s gothic architecture, with the oldest parts of the construction dating back to the 12th century. The church has been a place of Christian worship for over 800 years and still continues to play a big role in Bristol’s Christian community.

Temple Meads

Designed by the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the same engineer responsible for other masterpieces, such as the Bristol Suspension Bridge, Temple Meads railway station is certainly one of the most iconic buildings in the city. It’s also one of the most beautiful railway stations in the country due to its intricate gothic style and prominent clock tower.
